Buffalo AKG Art Museum Acquires Joiri Minaya
Rivalry Projects (Buffalo, NY) and Praise Shadows (Brookline, MA) are thrilled to announce that the Buffalo AKG Art Museum has acquired Joiri Minaya, I can wear tropical print now #2 (Opacity), 2018 for their permanent collection.
From her series I can wear tropical print now, Minaya uses tropical print shirts found in thrift stores as a canvas. She invades these materials through gestures that examine their contemporary and historical contradictions. I can wear tropical print now #2 (Opacity) specifically meditates on Glissant’s concept of Opacity alongside the camouflage effect created by the two prints that echo each other.
Thank you to the Buffalo AKG Art Museum for your continued support and to Camilø Álvårez of Samsøñ (Boston, MA).
